Impact-Resistant Instant Adhesives: Strong Bonds Without Sacrificing Aesthetics

Instant adhesive, as the name suggests, cures quickly and is suitable for various materials. However, the cured product tends to be hard and brittle, resulting in poor impact resistance. Additionally, during curing, component volatilization may cause blooming, leaving a white residue that affects the product’s appearance. To address these issues, instant adhesives with enhanced strength, improved impact resistance, and no aesthetic compromise need to be developed and commercialized.

Features:

  • Offers high strength and impact resistance.
  • Minimal odor and no blooming.
  • Available in both low and high viscosity options.
  • Comes in transparent and black variants.

Uses:

  • Ideal for bonding parts needing high strength and impact resistance.
  • Suitable for products where aesthetics are important, like electrical and electronic components.
  • Effective in preventing adhesive drips on vertical surfaces.
  • Useful when a less visible adhesive or reinforcement is desired.

Development Highlights:

To minimize blooming, we’ve created a product with high peel strength and superior impact resistance by using alkoxy alkyl-α-cyanoacrylate as the main component and incorporating a special elastomer. The black variant provides simple shading through coloring, making the adhesive and reinforcement areas less visible when bonding black materials.

Properties and general characteristics

Blooming test: Comparison of appearance confirmation

We tested the developed product against the existing one under high temperature and humidity conditions. The developed product showed no blooming around the adhesive, unlike the existing product.

Comparison of peel strength / impact adhesive strength

Measurement methods:

T-peel strength (3TS-4130-021)
Impact adhesion strength (3TS-4320-001)

Curing conditions:
25°C, 50% RH, 48 hours curing

We compared the peel strength and impact adhesive strength of the developed product, ThreeBond 7727, with the existing product. ThreeBond 7727 demonstrated significantly higher strength than the existing product B.
